"Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly argue the main purpose of stop-and-frisk is to get guns off the street."

Starting stories with hyperbole and strawmen is distracting. The mayor has been saying that stop and frisk “saves lives” and he did compare the NYCLU to the NRA, but I haven’t heard him assert that the main purpose of the controversial policy is to get guns off New York’s streets. If he did say such a thing, a link would be a nice citation. If WNYC is interpreting his “saving lives” statement, a link would help clarify their view.
Lessons here: 1) newsrooms don’t always get it 100% right; 2) always be linking; 3) watch out for straw men.
